Blood Bridge
A blood bridge is a named rota of donors who keep one person with thalassemia alive, fortnight after fortnight, for as long as it takes. It has to be a structure rather than a favour, and the reason is arithmetic.
The arithmetic of one child
Day 135, transfusion 10. Donor 10 is giving. 5 are inside the 90-day recovery window. 4 could be asked today.
Which leaves 4 of the 10 who can be asked on any given day. That is the whole margin.
The 15-day interval, the 10-donor roster and the 90-day wait: Thalassaemia International Federation guideline; Blood Warriors operating model. The 4-donor margin is our arithmetic on the three figures above, not a measurement.

“A missed or delayed transfusion in India is almost never a clinical decision. It is blood that was not arranged, a donor who was not asked in time, or a family that could not reach the centre on the day.” — Thalassaemia International Federation guideline; Blood Warriors operating model

How it runs
Three coordinators carry all of them, alongside the wider team, because the asking, the reminding and the follow-up happen the moment they fall due rather than when someone remembers. Coordination is necessary for a longer life, not sufficient — chelation adherence and specialist clinical care carry the rest, and we do not supply those. A monthly gift funds one bridge.Source: Blood Warriors live dashboard, 2026
